US MilTech Startup Neros Expands Its Kyiv Office — Here’s Who They’re Hiring
American military tech startup Neros is expanding its presence in Kyiv and looking to fill two senior-level positions. The company has posted openings for Country Manager and Business Development Manager roles on its website. According to LinkedIn, data, the salary range for the Country Manager position is $82,000–$120,000 per year — nearly «American-level» pay — while the job is based in Ukraine.
Neros Technologies has been supplying Ukraine with drones for some time and maintains an office in Kyiv. The expansion of the company’s Ukrainian team, backed by Sequoia Capital and Peter Thiel, signals growing confidence in the local defense-tech market.
About Neros
- Neros Technologies develops and manufactures cost-effective, battle-proven unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for long-range missions resistant to electronic warfare.
- Founded in 2023 by Soren Monroe-Anderson and Olaf Hichwa, the startup raised nearly $11 million in initial venture funding and currently employs about 75 people.
- Headquartered in El Segundo, California, at the heart of the Los Angeles aerospace hub, Neros also operates its own production facility there. According to the company, it currently manufactures 2,000 drones per month, with plans to ramp up to 10,000 by the end of the year.
«The state of the industry is pretty abysmal. Neros produces 2,000 drones per month, and we have the highest-rate drone manufacturing line in America, which to me is crazy because that is not that big of a number,» Monroe-Anderson told CNN.
Ukraine’s Role in Neros’ Success Story
- Neros Technologies has maintained a representative office in Kyiv for roughly a year (according to YouControl, the legal entity was registered in September 2024). Ukraine has become not only a critical testing ground for Neros’ technology but also one of its largest customers.
- Earlier this year, the company won a contract to deliver 6,000 strike FPV drones to Ukraine over six months. In total, Neros has orders for 36,000 drones from Ukraine.
«Frankly, when we started the company, the US Department of Defense wasn’t very interested in what we were doing,» Monroe-Anderson told CNN. «It was just a lot of buzzwords about a critical mass and building cheap drones, but no one knew what an FPV drone was, and no one cared about small quadcopters.»
- During his first trip to Ukraine, Monroe-Anderson brought 30 FPV prototypes. Since then, Neros has gone through «countless» design iterations during numerous visits.
«We kept on the path of developing stuff based on the feedback we got from Ukraine, continuously testing it there, and going over to Ukraine. And then eventually that became extremely valuable in the eyes of the US Department of Defense,» he said.
- According to the company’s profile on exa.ai, Neros’ Kyiv office focuses on field operations, system deployment, and collecting real-time customer feedback. It plays a key role in supporting Ukrainian military partners and ensuring that product testing and improvements reflect real-world combat conditions.
- Although the startup hasn’t publicly discussed its Ukrainian operations before, and its local representative works under an NDA, the decision to hire two senior managers at once may mark just the beginning of a larger expansion.
